The gut–GLP-1 connection
Ingredient research, explained
GLP-1 is a hormone released by the gut. Researchers are studying how microbial fermentation may influence its release. Here’s the connection.
- 01 / Prebiotic fibers
- Inulin and GOS can be fermented by gut microbes. Debloat provides 0.8 g of inulin + 0.4 g of GOS per 2 gummies.
- 02 / Short-chain fatty acids
- Fermentation produces compounds called short-chain fatty acids, including butyrate. Debloat also contains 50 mg of butyrate per serving; taking butyrate is not the same as producing it in the colon.
- 03 / Gut-hormone signaling
- In mouse cells and animal research, short-chain fatty acids can stimulate GLP-1 release. Human prebiotic trials have found mixed results.
What this means for Debloat: These studies do not establish that this formula increases GLP-1. Ingredient amounts, preparation, and study population matter.
A small trial in 10 adults used 16 g of prebiotics daily and reported increased GLP-1. A separate trial in 44 adults used 15 g of GOS daily and found no significant change in circulating gut hormones. Neither tested Debloat’s 1.2 g prebiotic blend.
